Variable-Speed Control for Fast, Accurate Cuts
A reciprocation saw mimics the back-and-forth motion of a handsaw that lets you quickly cut through wood framing, shingles, PVC pipes, and more. Plus a reciprocating saw fits into places where other saws can't go, making it a truly versatile addition to your professional tool kit.

A DEWALT cordless reciprocating saw helps you capitalize on all those benefits, thanks to the fast cutting speeds allowed by its powerful, 18-volt motor and big 1-1/8-inch stroke length. This saw offers variable-speed control for application-specific performance, and it is capable of operating at speeds ranging from 0 to 3,000 spm. When you're finished with a cut, the saw's electric brake stops the blade quickly and reliably.

Versatile, Convenient Blade Clamp and Shoe Design
For versatility, the saw's four-position blade clamp allows you to choose the configuration that best matches your application, and the blade clamp is reinforced with metal for long-term durability. This setup gives you the ability to make flush cuts and the ability to reverse the blade for cutting upside-down, and--regardless of which configuration you're using--the saw's pivoting, open-top shoe makes it easy to see what you're working on. The three-position shoe also makes adjusting cut depth easy and helps extend blade life.

Fast, Keyless Blade Changes
When it comes time to switch to a different type of blade or replace a blade with a fresh one, the keyless lever-action blade-clamp design allows for fast, easy blade changes--no special tools required.

Comfort Grip and Long Battery Life
Since comfortable handling contributes to better control and accurate cuts, this saw weighs an easy-to-maneuver 8.2 pounds and features a textured, anti-slip grip. The variable speed trigger provides consistent performance and improved user control in extended use situations.

A tool's only useful if it runs long enough to get the job done, and DEWALT XRP extended run-time batteries keep this reciprocating saw running at full tilt. They provide up to 40 percent more run-time than standard batteries, and any XRP battery can be used with any 18-volt DEWALT tool, which allows you to streamline your kit. In addition, the one-hour charger helps reduce downtime so you can get your task done quickly.

This 18-volt cordless XRP reciprocating saw kit also comes with a DEWALT warranty package that includes a three-year limited warranty, a one-year free service contract, and a 90-day money back guarantee.

What Should You Look For in Electric Pruning Shears?

!±8± What Should You Look For in Electric Pruning Shears?

When choosing electric pruning sheers, you need to take some time to research what all is on the market and compare models and brands. Pruning shears, whether electric or manual, are a necessary tool for any home gardener, so you'll want to make sure you buy the best shears you can afford.

Tips for Choosing

The number one consideration when buying electric pruning shears is quality. You don't want to spend your hard-earned money on an el cheapo set of pruning shears which you'll have to replace in a few years. Look for carbon-steel blades. They won't rust, and they will provide the durability you're looking for.

Don't buy electric pruning shears just because Uncle Joe has the same brand and really likes them. The best shears for him might be all wrong for you which will make them both hard to handle and unsafe. You need to find pruning shears that are the right weight and size for you. Getting the wrong ones could endanger your health and safety .

A major safety feature is buying electric pruning shears which you can totally dismantle after use so that you can clean them for next time. If you have shears that get things jammed in them which you can't remove, you've got a real safety hazard on your hands. You never know when a piece of jammed wood might fly out and hit you, or someone else, in the face. The force is enough to put an eye out. So prevent injuries before they happen by buying shears you can clean.

Three Major Types You Can Pick From

In choosing your pruning shears, there are three basic styles to choose from depending on what you're planning to use them for. Straight-bladed manual shears are the most common and versatile type of pruning shears. They are easy to use and make clean cuts. Shears with serrated blades, though, are a bit harder to manipulate and are used most often for ornamental grass.

Electric pruning shears are your third option. These work best in large yards where there is a lot of recurrent pruning work to be done. Using them is much easier than manual clippers, and you can get through the jobs a great deal faster. They are even ideal for thicker plant stems and small trees. While not providing as smooth of a cut as the manual pruning shears do, they can't be beat for speed and ease of use.

8 Reminders You Need To Know Before Hiring a Tree Expert

!±8± 8 Reminders You Need To Know Before Hiring a Tree Expert

When there is a tree limb knocking on your window every time the wind comes rushing about, maybe it's time to consider hiring a tree expert - especially if the sound wakes you up in the middle of the night.

A tree expert, who is also called an arborist, is a trained individual who can provide proper care, pruning, or removal of trees. For example, when it comes to the situation of cutting a certain maple tree that already becomes a nuisance to you and your neighbors, the proper person to call to cut down that huge maple tree trunk that is upon the telephone lines is an experienced tree-cutting company.

But how do you make sure that you are getting the right person or company for the job? Here are some reminders for you to check out determine which tree expert can finish the job.

Check for testimonials from other people as much as possible. If you can get references from reliable sources like your own family, friends, or relatives, the better. You can also check the internet for sites or companies that are known to offer good service. Do not just hire someone who gives a cheap offer. Always ask for the credentials of the tree cutting expert that you are transacting with so that you can make sure that the job will be done safely and accordingly. Be cautious of those people who go from house to house asking for work to be done. It is safer to get one from a reputable company than picking a person on the streets. Most legal tree specialists usually let you sign a contract. But before getting your ink on that paper read the fine print. Also, asks questions if you have any article on that contract that you don't fully understand. Find information about the professional background of the tree specialist. If the arborist is a member of organizations like the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA), the American Society of Consulting Arborists (ASCA), and the Tree Care Industry Association (TCIA), then you can be sure that you and your neighborhood is in safe hands, whether you are having a tree removed, grown, or pruned. Membership to these organizations shows a great interest on the arborist's part to learn about updates on professional tree care. See if the tree expert had an ISA arborist certification. If he has, then that means that he has passed intensive examinations in tree care. Also check for the insurance company of the arborist. This is to avoid paying for huge expenses in cases of accidents. Take note that uninsured tree experts might become a liability. Let the tree master present the appropriate licenses and permits. Licensed workers usually show certification that the person has complied with any local or national laws that are enforced in the place regarding that job.

If you are hiring a tree expert, make sure that you consider following the above reminders. The simplest thing you can do in finding the right arborist is reading about the basic principles of tree care issued by the ISA. Knowledge is almost always better than ignorance.

Black & Decker LP1000 Alligator Lopper 4.5 amp Electric Chain Saw

Brand : Black & Decker

Price : $60.00
Post Date : Dec 02, 2011 21:13:47
Usually ships in 1-2 business days

The Alligator Lopper's wide 4-inch jaw capacity easily chews through small trunks and logs.

Because the Alligator Lopper cuts side-to-side instead of up and down, the chain won't bury itself in the ground when the cut is completed -- saving wear and tear on the cutting surface.

The Alligator Lopper's controlled, smooth cutting action makes clean-up from storms or simple pruning easy, safe, and fast.
Black & Decker's Power Saws -- Driven by Quality
Black & Decker offers both cordless and electric chain saws, including the Alligator Lopper electric chain saw and 18-volt cordless chain saws. Chain saws feature powerful motors for fast cutting and a sturdy, lightweight design that makes them exceptionally easy to use.

The Alligator Lopper Makes Cutting a Breeze
Take a big bite out of fallen trees, tree limbs and brush with the Alligator Lopper -- a revolutionary cutting tool that provides chainsaw-like cutting performance in an un-intimidating tool. With its scissor-like action, the Alligator Lopper’s rugged metal jaws clamp onto logs, thick branches, tree limbs, and vines -- and then saw right through them. Once limbs and branches are on the ground, the Alligator Lopper is perfect for chopping them up into manageable pieces to throw away or chuck into your fireplace.

This amazing saw boasts a rugged 4.5 amp motor for fast, powerful chomping through wood -- plus a heavy-duty cutting bar and chain to really chew through dense branches and logs. This model also features auto chain tensioning to keep the tool in top cutting form. Just loosen the bar retainer bolts with the included wrench and the bar automatically takes out the slack and adjusts the chain’s tension perfectly.

The Alligator Lopper’s jaws offer the ultimate in controlled cutting. The rugged metal guards that cover the jaws protect you from the cutting chain, and they immediately snap back over the blades once the cut is complete. The Alligator Lopper’s jaws also mean that there's no skipping around at the start of a cut. Unlike traditional chainsaws, the lopper cuts side-to-side instead of from top to bottom. This sideways cutting action prevents the cutting chain from burying itself in the dirt as the chain completes its cut.

The Alligator Lopper also makes it much faster and easier to cut logs, because you'll never need to prop them up on saw horses or on other any other brace. Just grab the logs in the Alligator Lopper’s jaws and cut right through them.

Key Technical Specs:

  • Power: 4.5 amps
  • Bar length: 6 inches
  • Jaw capacity: 4 inches

Applications
The Alligator Lopper is ideal for tree pruning, clearing brush, storm clean-up, cutting firewood and more, and it’s a great alternative to chainsaws, manual loppers, handsaws and clippers.

Warranty
This power yard product from Black & Decker is covered by the manufacturer for two years from the date of purchase. This warranty does not cover damage resulting from negligent handling, misuse or lack of reasonable maintenance and care. (Proof of purchase may be required).

Black & Decker's Focus on Performance
Black & Decker is a global marketer and manufacturer of quality products used in and around the home, and it also serves as a major supplier of information systems and services to government and commercial clients worldwide. When Pruning Fruit Trees Goes Bad

!±8± When Pruning Fruit Trees Goes Bad

If you want to extend the life of your tree and encourage it to grow better fruit, you have to prune it. Pruning fruit trees is the thing to do, because that allows sunlight to reach all areas of the tree. Swearing that I wouldn't call someone to do the job for me, I armed myself with my best sewing scissors and a ladder. I succeeded in opening the ladder and pinching my thumb in about 30 minutes. Then I climbed up this thing and had an idea of what Jack felt like when he climbed the beanstalk.

When I reached the first limb, I realized I knew nothing about pruning fruit trees but I figured it couldn't be that hard. After attempting to cut one of the smaller limbs from my tree, it dawned upon me that scissors weren't going to get the job done. So I borrowed my husband's chain saw.

I figured it had to be better than those scissors. I didn't realize how loud it would sound and it startled me. I tossed it on the ground. Lucky for me the grass is soft, because I topped off the ladder afterwards. I swore at the stupid chain saw, then we back up the ladder with it. I was prepared this time; I started again.

I was about to learn that chain saws are very sharp. I tried cutting that small limb again. The chain saw was aggressive and chomped into six and half limbs. My beautiful tree! About 1/4th of it was lying on the ground, and boy, was I really ticked off. Not to mention the fact that when those limbs fell, one of them hit me right in the forehead and left a big scratch. I would not give up.

This time I got out the hedge shears and climbed up the tree itself. How hard can pruning fruit trees possibly be? I accidentally kicked the ladder over on the way up.

I was absolutely fuming as I waited until my husband found me in that bleeping fruit tree. I was bleeding from the head and had dirt all over my butt. As my husband was laughing and I was walking back to the house, I gave that tree a look that would wither it and muttered, "Until Next Year!
